Born in 1893, Miró was a Catalan painter, sculptor, engraver and ceramist who died in 1983.
Joan Miró was one of the main representatives of the surrealist movement.
His work reflects his interest in the subconscious, in the ‘childish spirit’ and in his country. In his early years he showed strong Fauvist, cubist and expressionist influences, but he later evolved towards flat painting with a touch of naiveness.
His jovial and innocent style is highly personal and instantly recognizable. The same holds for the palette of colours he uses.
